Life often throws unexpected curveballs, making it essential to have a repertoire of quick and easy dinner ideas readily available in your meal plan. For busy families, ensuring a home-cooked meal makes it to the table, especially during hectic weekdays, can feel like a monumental task. That’s precisely why recipes like these Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers are invaluable. They represent the perfect fusion of convenience and wholesome goodness, designed to streamline your cooking process without compromising on taste or nutrition.
In our modern world, where schedules are packed and distractions are plentiful, the simple act of gathering around the dinner table has become more meaningful than ever. It’s a cherished time for conversation, laughter, and connecting with loved ones over a nourishing meal. This tradition holds a special place in my heart, rooted deeply in my upbringing. I vividly remember growing up in a household where dinner was always a sacred ritual, enjoyed together at the table. It was a time to share the day’s events, discuss ideas, and simply be present with one another.
My husband and I have proudly carried on this tradition with our own family. Whether it’s all four of us, or just the two of us enjoying a quiet evening, the dinner table is where we convene. Over more than thirty years of marriage, I could count on one hand the instances where we deviated from this practice. Even as our girls have grown older and our lives have become increasingly busy with their activities and our commitments, we steadfastly prioritize this communal meal. It’s a grounding force, a constant that reminds us of the importance of family bonds and shared experiences.

Today, I’m thrilled to partner with my friends at Borden® Cheese to bring you this delightful Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers recipe. As always, the perspectives, opinions, and my undeniable love for cheese are entirely my own. This collaboration allows us to highlight how premium ingredients can transform everyday meals into something extraordinary.
The quest for nutritious, easy-to-prepare weeknight meals often feels like an uphill battle. However, with the exceptional quality of Borden® Cheese and just a few additional simple ingredients, you can effortlessly create healthy, delicious dinners brimming with essential protein and calcium for your family. These burgers are a testament to how quick cooking doesn’t mean sacrificing nutritional value or incredible taste.
Burgers are a frequent visitor to our dinner table, appearing a few times a month, and almost weekly during the warmer summer months. The fantastic news is that burgers are incredibly versatile, offering endless possibilities for creativity and variation. This ensures that you never feel like you’re serving the same old meal repeatedly. Beyond traditional ground beef, I frequently experiment with ground chicken, turkey, and pork to introduce exciting changes of pace and flavor profiles to our burger nights.
Regardless of your chosen meat or preferred toppings, burgers can be inherently straightforward to prepare. But it’s the unwavering commitment to using high-quality ingredients that truly elevates a good burger to an extraordinary culinary masterpiece, much like these Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers. The difference is palpable, transforming a simple meal into a memorable one.
This commitment to quality is precisely why I wholeheartedly recommend incorporating Borden® Cheese into your recipes. Its signature creamy texture and rich flavor are a direct result of being crafted with high-quality, wholesome ingredients and an undeniable passion for cheese-making. It’s not just an ingredient; it’s a key component that contributes significantly to the overall deliciousness and satisfaction of any dish it graces.
Effortless Dining: Delicious & Nutritious Meals Don’t Need to Be Complex

These Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers are brimming with fresh, vibrant ingredients, with tart Granny Smith apples playing a starring role. For every pound of ground pork, I typically use about 1 1/2 apples, but feel free to adjust this quantity based on your preference for a more pronounced apple flavor. The crisp acidity of Granny Smiths cuts through the richness of the pork and cheese beautifully, adding a refreshing counterpoint.
To prepare the apples, you’ll need to core and grate them. There’s no need to meticulously remove the skin unless you prefer to do so. I’ve found that when you grate an apple half, most of the skin will remain intact at the end, which you can simply discard. The tiny bits of skin that get grated with the apple are barely noticeable and contribute to the overall texture and fiber. However, apples are notoriously juicy, and excess moisture can make your burger patties difficult to form and prone to falling apart. To counteract this, place the grated apple in a paper towel. Fold the paper towel snugly around the apple shreds and squeeze firmly, allowing the towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. This crucial step ensures your burgers hold their shape perfectly during cooking and prevents them from becoming soggy.

I am a strong advocate for using fresh herbs whenever possible, as they infuse dishes with unparalleled aroma and depth of flavor. Fresh rosemary, with its piney and slightly peppery notes, is an ideal partner for the rich flavors of pork and sweet-tart apples in this recipe. Its robust essence stands up beautifully to the other ingredients, creating a wonderfully aromatic and complex profile. If fresh rosemary isn’t readily available, you can certainly substitute it with dried rosemary. As a general rule, use one-third of the amount of dried herbs compared to fresh. So, for this recipe, 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary would be an appropriate alternative, offering a concentrated burst of its distinctive flavor.

For those who, like me, appreciate a more substantial and satisfying cheese melt, you’re going to fall in love with the new Borden® Cheese Thick Cut Shreds. These shreds are specifically designed for optimal melting, ensuring a smooth, creamy, and wonderfully gooey blanket over all your family’s favorite dishes. They perform exceptionally well in a variety of applications, from hearty casseroles to, of course, these delectable burgers. The thick cut means more cheese flavor in every bite and a visually appealing melt that’s simply irresistible.

The assembly of these burgers is incredibly straightforward, making them perfect for even the busiest evenings. Simply combine the fresh ground pork with the carefully prepared grated apples, the aromatic fresh rosemary, and a generous portion of sharp cheddar cheese in a large mixing bowl. Using your hands, gently mix all the ingredients until they are just combined. Be mindful not to overmix, as this can lead to a tough burger. Once the mixture is ready, form it into uniform patties, ensuring they are thick enough to remain juicy but thin enough to cook through evenly. The goal is to create a well-integrated patty where every bite offers a medley of these fantastic flavors, then they are ready for the grill or skillet.

Cooking these burgers is just as simple as preparing them. You can opt for grilling them outdoors for a smoky flavor or pan-frying them on the stovetop for a quick and easy indoor option. Regardless of your chosen method, the key to achieving that perfect cheesy goodness is in the timing. Since Borden® Cheese Thick Cut Shreds are renowned for their exceptional melting properties, you’ll want to add an extra sprinkle of cheese to the top of each burger during the final minute or two of cooking time. This allows the cheese to melt into a luscious, creamy layer, ensuring you get that irresistible, gooey texture and sharp cheddar flavor both inside the patty and on top. The result is a burger that’s bursting with flavor and comforting warmth from every angle.

How to Freeze Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers for Easy Meal Prep
Don’t let a busy schedule stand in the way of enjoying a delicious, wholesome home-cooked meal. These Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers are a fantastic solution, not only for their ease of preparation but also because they are incredibly well-suited for advance meal prepping. Preparing a batch of these burgers ahead of time, whether for refrigeration or freezing, means you’ll always have a quick and satisfying dinner option ready to go, saving you precious time and effort on demanding weeknights.
These versatile pork burgers can be cooked to perfection on your outdoor grill, imparting a wonderful char and smoky flavor, or conveniently cooked on the stovetop in a pan. While some recipes suggest refrigerating or freezing burgers before cooking to help them hold their shape better, I’ve found that these particular patties are quite robust. Even when cooked immediately after forming, they maintain their integrity beautifully. However, for maximum convenience and flexibility, prepping them in advance is an excellent strategy. You can form the burgers and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours, or freeze them for up to 3 months, ready to be cooked whenever hunger strikes.
Detailed Guide: How to Freeze Burgers for Future Meals
Freezing burgers is a simple yet incredibly effective meal prep hack. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure your Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers are perfectly preserved and ready for cooking:
- **Flash Freeze:** Arrange the uncooked burger patties in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Ensure they are not touching each other. Place the baking sheet in the freezer overnight, or until the burgers are completely frozen solid. This “flash freezing” step prevents the patties from sticking together once stacked.
- **Stack and Store:** Once the burgers are firm, remove them from the freezer. Stack the frozen patties with a piece of parchment paper or wax paper in between each burger. This additional barrier prevents them from sticking together and makes it easy to grab just one or two at a time.
- **Bag It Up:** Transfer the stacked burgers into a large, resealable freezer bag or an airtight freezer-safe container.
- **Remove Air:** Crucially, remove as much air as possible from the bag before sealing. Air is the enemy of frozen food, as it can lead to freezer burn, which affects both taste and texture. A vacuum sealer is ideal, but manually pressing out the air before sealing works well too.
- **Label and Date:** Don’t forget to label the bag or container with the contents (“Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers”) and the date they were frozen. This helps you keep track of your freezer inventory and ensures you use them within their optimal timeframe (typically up to 3 months for best quality).
The best part? There’s no need to thaw these burgers before cooking! You can grill or pan-fry them directly from frozen. Simply add a few extra minutes to the cooking time to ensure they are cooked through to the correct internal temperature (160 degrees Fahrenheit for pork). How’s that for a fast, hassle-free dinner solution that doesn’t compromise on flavor or quality? Your perfect, juicy cheeseburger awaits, even on the busiest of days!

Apple Cheddar Pork Burgers are a simple dinner solution the whole family will devour!! Made with just five ingredients and packed with flavor, tart apples and sharp cheddar (inside and out) are going to elevate your burgers to a whole new dimension with an unexpected flavor that everyone is going to love!
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh ground pork
- 1 ½ Granny Smith apples, cored and shredded
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 cup Borden® Cheese Sharp Cheddar Thick Cut Shreds (divided)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (if cooking on a stove-top pan)
- 4 sturdy burger buns, toasted
Instructions
- Grate apples on a paper towel. Fold the paper towel around the grated apple and squeeze, letting the paper towel absorb most of the liquid from the apples.
- In a large bowl combine pork, grated apples, rosemary and a half a cup of cheese and mix with your hands. Season with salt and pepper, if desired.
- Form meat into 3 or 4 patties. (We like larger burgers, so I usually make 3, but you can certainly get 4 quarter-pound burgers as well)
- Heat a grill to medium indirect heat or drizzle olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the burgers and cook about 5 minutes. Flip and cook for another 4 minutes, then sprinkle top of burgers with remaining cheese and continue cooking 1-2 minutes longer or until cooked through. Check the burgers with a meat thermometer to make sure they’ve reached temperature (160 degrees F).
- Serve each burger on a toasted bun with your choice of toppings.
